Company

Origin

Omnitek B.V. was founded in 1979 by Willem Wagelaar as a glass instrument maker: Wagelaar Glass Instruments. With many years of experience in industry and the university sector, refined and specialized glassware was produced for laboratories and research and development, particularly in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. In the 1980s, the company grew in size and gained more and more a reputation as a problem solver. Our close contact with our customers and the knowledge of the many applications enabled us to offer tailor-made solutions to problems.

Development

With our constant interest in automation and advanced measurement techniques, we have always succeeded in providing our customers with the most suitable technology. During the nineties, our knowledge of analysis techniques increased hand in hand. This eventually led to the development and production of advanced, fully automated measuring equipment. By focusing on specific niche markets, such as plastics and petrochemicals, this branch of the company grew into an increasingly important part of the business.

In the meantime, the necessary shifts were taking place in our traditional market, the manufacture of glass instruments. The same automation that we had always had in high regard penetrated the laboratory with an unprecedented speed and thereby, largely drove out the need for glassware. In addition, it turned out to be impossible to attract production forces who had the right mentality and skills to function at the quality level where we were active. As a result, at the beginning of 2000, we decided to completely stop our glass production and focus solely on the development and manufacture of automated measuring equipment such as the AVM moisture analyzer. Only a small-scale production of the popular "Eurovac" modular vacuum program was maintained, but that system eventually disappeared in 2002.

Due to these radical changes in activity and the fact that we became increasingly active internationally, the company was renamed Omnitek.

Present & Future

Over the past 10 years, our activities have increasingly focused on the analysis of oil and lubricants. With our strong product line of S-flow viscometry systems, we have penetrated many laboratories worldwide.

At the beginning of 2011, our range was significantly expanded with the introduction of the U-Visc series kinematic viscometer fully compliant with ASTM D445, combining several unique features and making it the instrument of choice in many applications, ranging from QC to R&D to used oil analysis.

After successful years with our U-Visc Series our customers began to request for an instrument capable of covering the most taxing applications and automatically test extremely viscous samples such as additives, vacuum residues, asphalts, crude oils, waxes, heavy fuel oils, etc., which typically show poor determinability when sampled repeatedly. We were motivated enough and pushed to specifically developed the BitUVisc Series, a unique automatic viscometer specially designed to cover sample types which pose great challenges to automatic sampling, measurement and cleaning, because of their high pour point and viscosity.

In 2019, we launched the newest generation of S-flow systems which offers the ultimate in fast, accurate viscosity testing. The latest generation of S-flow builds on the strong foundation of its predecessors to offer the ultimate in automatic viscosity testing of Newtonian samples such as petroleum products.

In 2021, we introduced Cito Autosampler for S-flow IV. The first Houillon autosampler of its kind for fully automatic unattended operation.

We will continue to develop our own equipment based on customer needs, for a price that is affordable for them. So check our site regularly for new developments!
